WASHINGTON — Tens of thousands of pro-life advocates, including pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Mobile, descended upon the nation's capital for the 50th March for Life Jan. 20 — the first national march since the overturn of the U.S. Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that initially prompted the annual demonstration.

Roh, have announced that the 2023 Catholic Charities Appeal goal is $4.7 million. The basic pledge is $636 per year, which is $53 per month for 12 months. The 2023 Catholic Charities Appeal theme remains "In all things Charity." Each of our ministries funded by the Catholic Charities Appeal emulate St. Matthew’s lesson on the beatitudes as they show Christ’s mercy to those in need throughout the Archdiocese of Mobile.
Spring Hill College alumna Dr. Julia Ponquinette Joyner, who went on to become a psychiatrist, died Jan. 7, in Richmond, Va. She was the first African-American student admitted to the college in 1954. Joyner and seven other classmates — Mary Andrea Abrams ’57, Patricia Blackmon ’58, Robert Buchanan ’57, Elbert LaLande ’57, Cecilia Mitchell ’58 and Fannie Motley, ’56; desegregated the college in September 1954 by quietly joining the student population.

On the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling, the Archdiocese of Mobile continued its long-standing tradition by traveling on a pilgrimage to Washington, D.C., for the March for Life. A group of youth and adults boarded buses and made the journey. With the overturning of Roe v. Wade, it was unclear what the March would look like this year.
Never face adversity by yourself, if at all avoidable. We are conditioned by our culture to be independent and that is fine and good in its own time and way. But, we are not made to be in isolation, and we are not created to face temptation alone. We are not sentenced to trying to grow spiritually alone.

Sister Alexandrine Lazzari, D.C., a Daphne native who ministered for 17 years at Providence Hospital in Mobile, died on Dec. 13, 2022 at the age of 93. She served as a Daughter of Charity for 75 years.
