Dos párrocos fueron instalados en la Arquidiócesis de Mobile recientemente. El P. Johnny Savoie fue instalado como párroco de la Parroquia Cristo Rey en Daphne el 16 de julio y el P. Augusty Puthanpura fue instalado como párroco de la Parroquia San Juan Bautista en Magnolia Springs el 22 de julio por el Arzobispo Thomas J. Rodi.

El Coro y Orquesta de Cámara Música Sacra comienza su 36ª temporada y presentará "Una velada de Gabriel Fauré" a las 7 p.m. 4 de agosto en la Iglesia Católica San Pío X en Mobile (217 South Sage Ave.,). Todos están invitados a asistir y se aceptarán donaciones en la puerta.

La escuela está a la vuelta de la esquina.  Lamento decirte eso, pero pensé que deberías saberlo.  De alguna manera, las cosas son más fáciles una vez que comienza la escuela.

En mi posición, tengo la bendición de observar los asombrosos resultados de la mayordomía en acción todos los días. Nuestra arquidiócesis está llena de innumerables ejemplos de mayordomos fieles que responden al llamado de Dios para devolver el tiempo, el talento y el tesoro que Él tan generosamente nos confió.  

Las células madre embrionarias han mostrado cierto atractivo y promesa porque son notablemente flexibles.

A mediados de mayo, pasé dos días intensos en Lisboa, donde se estaba preparando una nueva edición portuguesa de mis "Cartas a un joven católico", como recurso catequético para la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud-2023.

Hace 50 años El reverendo A. William Crandall, S.J., ex provincial de todos los jesuitas de la Provincia del Sur y presidente de Spring Hill College, dio el retiro cerrado para mujeres en la Casa de Retiros del Monasterio de la Visitación.

July is now at a close and as August begins the thoughts of many turn toward the reopening of school. Families will prepare for the resumption of the academic education of their children. In addition to all the necessary preparations for a new school year, I urge families to also prepare for the religious education of their children.

Augusty Puthanpura was installed as pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in Magnolia Springs on July 22 by Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi.

Musica Sacra Choir and Chamber Orchestra is beginning its 36th season and will perform “An Evening of Gabriel Fauré” at 7 p.m. Aug. 4 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mobile (217 South Sage Ave.,). 

School is just around the corner.  Sorry to break that to you, but I thought you should know.  In some ways things are easier once school starts.  We all get into routines.  We basically don’t worry about what we are going to do with the kids all day.  For many of our students it is also a time of fresh beginnings; they aren’t missing any assignments and they are not yet drowning trying to figure out a difficult concept.  

 In my position, I am blessed to observe the amazing results of stewardship in action every day. Our archdiocese is filled with countless examples of faithful stewards answering God’s call to give back the time, talent and treasure that He so generously entrusted to us.   

Embryonic stem cells have held out a certain appeal and promise because they are remarkably flexible. Researchers can make various cell types out of them, whether nerve cells or pancreatic islet cells, and these could, in theory, be used to treat diseases like Parkinson’s or diabetes. These morally-problematic cells, obtained by destroying human embryos, are, however, limited in their degree of flexibility, lacking the ability to “rewind” and make an entire embryo. 

In mid-May, I spent two intense days in Lisbon, where a new Portuguese edition of my "Letters to a Young Catholic" was being prepared as a catechetical resource for World Youth Day-2023.

50 Years Ago  Reverend A. William Crandall, S.J., former provincial of all Southern Province Jesuits and President of Spring Hill College, gave the closed retreat for women at the Visitation Retreat House.

This year’s Knights of Columbus Council 6727 Annual Seminarian Dinner on July 14 at St. Columba Parish in Dothan honored the late Knight, Bob Prickett, who passed away this past year. In 2011, Prickett originated the concept of a dinner to help fund the seminarians of the Archdiocese of Mobile, beginning an annual tradition that endures at the parish.

James Mayhall is ready to pray with fellow teenage Catholics from around the world. Mayhall, who will be a senior at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School this fall and attends St. Ignatius Parish in Mobile, is set to attend World Youth Day in Lisbon, Portugal. St. Ignatius Parish is organizing the trip that includes 14 high schoolers.

MOBILE — Musica Sacra Choir and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Christopher Uhl, will perform “An Evening of Gabriel Fauré,” including his Requiem in D minor, at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mobile (217 S. Sage Ave.). 

There is an area near the equator that is known for being difficult for sailors due to the lack of wind.  This phenomenon is known as doldrums.  As you can imagine, it would be very difficult to get any movement on a sailboat if you found yourself in the midst of the doldrums.
