Welcome back from Easter Holidays. I hope everyone has had time to relax and unwind in spite of these very challenging times. I’ve heard from many of you that this was a very different Easter break as we all had to be creative in planning a “stay-cation.” At least, there has been a break from distance learning and homework.
The ACCW card party and luncheon originally scheduled for May has been postponed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tickets were already mailed and will still be good when the event is rescheduled. No date has been announced yet.
In a simple ceremony April 9, Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi led those present in a prayer and blessing before signing the contract to begin construction of the St. Michael Catholic High School Field House.
While few were able to attend the graveside service for Msgr. Peter J. Cunningham because of COVID-19, there’s no doubt so many people throughout the Archdiocese of Mobile loved the faithful servant.
Many people across our archdiocese, Catholics, Christians of other denominations, members of other faiths, and people of good will are praying for God’s protection from COVID-19 and for an end to this pandemic. This is natural, this is understandable, this is good, and this is undoubtedly pleasing to God.

Jesus is risen! Alleluia! The tomb is empty and sadly so are churches across the world. The circumstances of this pandemic causes me to reflect on the importance of being a good steward even when we can’t gather with our neighbors or parish family.
After serving the Tillman’s Corner community of Mobile for more than 40 years, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School will close at the end of this school year. St. Vincent de Paul Parish Pastor Fr. Stephen Vrazel and principal Corinne Cuffle made the announcement March 24.
Whether it’s been assisting with utilities, providing food or delivering medicine, Catholic Social Services and its countless ministries throughout the Archdiocese of Mobile are continuing to help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brother Lee Barker, S.C., who worked magic in the lives of young people – including many at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School – died March 25 at the age of 92 at Mobile Infirmary. Brother Lee arrived at McGill-Toolen in 1998 at the age of 73 but connected with young people through his ministry, which included magic.

Those that know me well will hopefully verify that this is true: I attempt to be one who uses words carefully. One of my brothers will text me when events use the phrase “first annual” – a phrase which I do not like, which cannot exist, and remains a thorn in my linguistic side.
50 Years Ago Steve Schroll, Montgomery Catholic High School junior, was voted MVP in basketball on the Montgomery all-metro team in Class AAA. Mike Baxley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baxley, and a junior at McGill-Toolen, was notified of his acceptance as a member of the 1970 United States of America School Band. The band was scheduled to tour England, Scotland and Ireland.
We hear the story of the three faithful Jews who refuse to offer sacrifice to the pagan god of King Nebuchadnezzar from the Book of the Prophet Daniel during the fifth week of Lent.
In all that we have been experiencing these past several weeks as a world, a nation, a church, and individually, a story I read as a young priest, about 40 years ago, keeps coming to mind. I remember reading an article by a writer named Leonard Mann.
