Congratulations to Archdiocese of Mobile seminarian Edward Charnock and St. Dominic Catholic School/McGill-Toolen Catholic High School alumna Janie Dunwell as they took important steps on their vocations journeys. Charnock was admitted to Candidacy for Holy Orders on Aug. 15 at St. Bartholomew Parish in Elberta. The Rite of Candidacy for Ordination was presided over by Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi and witnessed by Archdiocese of Mobile Vocation Director Fr. Patrick Gilbreath. It is celebrated when a candidate has reached a maturity of purpose and is shown to have the necessary qualifications. The intention of receiving orders is expressed publicly by the candidate and the archbishop then accepts his publicly proclaimed intention. The next steps for Charnock would be to be installed as Reader, then Acolyte, then ordination as a transitional deacon and finally ordination as a priest. Dunwell received her Dominican habit as a first-year novice for the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia in Nashville. She received her habit, as well as her religious name – Sister Victoria Christi – on the feast of St Dominic, Aug. 8. When novices receive their religious names, they also receive their feast day, which is celebrated at the Motherhouse as a birthday would be. Her feast day is Sept. 14 - the Triumph of the Cross.
