"The Catholic Week" earns honors

“The Catholic Week,” the official publication of the Archdiocese of Mobile, earned four awards June 21 at the Catholic Media Conference’s annual convention in Atlanta. The awards were presented by the Catholic Media Association of the United States and Canada for work published in 2023.

TCW Editor Rob Herbst received second place in the “Best Photograph – Sports Photo” category. The photo appeared in the Dec. 15, 2023, edition of the newspaper and featured Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School’s Caleb McCreary hopping into the end zone for a touchdown during the Knights’ Class 4A state championship victory.

Judges remarked “An enthralling image of celebration that captures the support of a teammate while the opponents are wildly sprawled on the field. A simple photo at first glance but upon inspection reveals many prongs.”

Herbst also received honorable mention awards in the “Best Photograph – Sacramental” and “Best Headline” categories. The photo featured a couple kissing during a milestone wedding anniversary Mass at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Foley and appeared in the Oct. 6 edition of the newspaper. The headline, “New Library in the Books” appeared in the Aug. 25 edition and featured a newly-blessed library for permanent deacons.

The staff of “The Catholic Week” also received honorable mention for “Best Annual Report – (Arch) Diocesan Finances” for its four-page supplement published May 19.
