By ROB HERBST The Catholic Week MOBILE — Inclement weather unfortunately cancelled this year's Solemnity of Christ the King procession in downtown Mobile on Nov. 26. However Christ the King medalists representing parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Mobile were honored during Mass at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. The Archdiocese of Mobile normally celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King with a Rosary procession through downtown Mobile prior to Mass at the Cathedral celebrated by Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi. The feast of Christ the King was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI as secularism throughout the world grew and the feast was an opportunity for Catholics to exhibit their faith. Individuals from across the archdiocese were awarded Christ the King medals for living their faith. Each parish in the archdiocese has an opportunity to nominate one member to receive a medal. Honorees are then presented their medals during Mass.
