By The Catholic Week Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School senior Julienne Pharrams was the female co-recipient of the 2022 Jimmy Hitchcock Award on May 3.
The award recognizes Christian leadership and athletic success. Julienne is the daughter of Lorenzo and Tamara Pharrams. She has been captain of the girls’ basketball and volleyball teams at Montgomery Catholic. She also holds a 4.25 grade-point average and has taken every AP and Honors class available at the school.
She plans to attend the University of Alabama in the fall on scholarship and study political science.
The award is named after Jimmy Hitchcock, who was Auburn University’s first All-American in football as well as an All-American in basketball. Hitchcock’s devotion to youth athletics led to the introduction in Montgomery of Little League baseball. He served as Little League commissioner in Montgomery until his death in 1959.
Shortly after his death, a few friends and admirers expressed a desire to perpetuate his memory in an appropriate way. They invited others to join them in forming a committee for this purpose and the Jimmy Hitchcock Memorial Award Program was born.
