By The Catholic Week St. Joseph Parish in Prattville has come to the aid of victims of the tornado that struck Autuaga County on Jan. 12.
Parish officials said at least four St. Joseph families were directly impacted by the tornado. Two members were also hospitalized, but released Jan. 18.
As of Jan. 23, parishioners raised more than $4,500 to support those families. The parish's Padre Pio Ministry also held a food and clothing drive for tornado victims. According to the parish, 97 large bags and 11 boxes of clothes/shoes, food items, cases of water, diapers, wipes, paper towels, toilet paper, blankets, sheets and other necessary items were donated to families and other area ministries assisting with relief.
"The willingness of parishioners and the public to help has been and continues to be a model of charity," according the parish.
