More than 135 essays were turned in by students and McGill-Toolen teacher Nancy Fontenot was also recognized during an awards ceremony on Feb. 10 at the Country Club of Mobile as the teacher with the most submissions.
“The Laws of Life essay contest is an effort by the Better Business Bureau to involve young adults starting while in high school to learn about becoming part of their community as adults along with the principles of honesty and trust that the Better Business Bureau continues to teach to our communities,” BBB CSAL President and CEO Carl Bates said.
More than $2,000 in prize money was awarded to winners and various teachers.
“The response to this first year program, the Laws of Life Essay competition, was remarkable,” said Monde Donaldson, BBB CSAL Education Foundation Vice President and coordinator of the program. “The teachers embraced it. The schools embraced it, and the students embraced it. They saw a real need in the community. They saw a real need in their students’ thirst for ethical principles."
