Spring Hill College published a new magazine entitled “Spring Hill Today.”
Mother Marguerite Marie, Superior of the Little Sisters of the Poor, left Mobile for a new assignment in Phoenix. She was succeeded as superior by Sister Margaret Mary.
St. Jude Educational Institute High School, Montgomery, was one of 14 schools in the nation selected to receive National Humanities Faculty Assistance.
Bishop Joseph Lawson Howze was the subject of the CBS television program “Lamp Unto My Feet.”
Sister Mary Austin Clarke, RSM, celebrated her Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession as a Sister of Mercy at the Convent of Mercy.
Miss Sharon Colvin, a member of the St. Jude graduating class of 1973 was named recipient of a four-year honors scholarship to Spring Hill College.
Completing their summer apostolate at St. Michael Parish, Auburn, were Vincentian seminarians Steven Rosenberger, C.M. and Sylvester Peterka, C.M.

Reverend W. Bry Shields, president of McGill-Toolen High School named Angelo C. Harris III, athletic director for the school. Harris was a 1966 graduate of the school and had been a faculty member and coach of the varsity cross country and track teams since 1971.
Edmundite Fr. Richard M. Myhalyk, who served as pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes and chaplain to the Carmelite Monastery from 1977-1982 was elected the 13th superior general of the Society of St. Edmund.
Mercy Medical honored two of its board members in appreciation of their service to the Board of Trustees. Together the honorees Sister Marie Foley, R.S.M. and Samuel Eichold, M.D. represented 23 years of experience and service to Mercy Medical.
The Catholic Women's Club of St. John Parish, Ozark, installed the following officers: Joan Metz, president; Barbara Pattberg, vice president; Gloria Ario, secretary; and Sue Farnsworth, treasurer. Fr. Brendan Keller served as pastor.
Sister Augusta Reilly, R.S.M., director of Marian House for homeless women in Baltimore, was the speaker at Spring Hill College for Christus/Mercy’s INTERIM lecture. Sister was a native of Mobile and graduated from Convent of Mercy High and went on to do her Masters and Doctoral work at the University of Michigan.
Between 120-150 youth from all over the country came to Mobile and helped repair about 20 houses in the Mobile area as part of Catholic HEART (Helping Elderly Attain Repairs Today) Work Camp.
The Archdiocesan Office of Religious Education honored Sister Francis Assisi Prelmeier, C.S.A. for her 12 years of service to Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Mobile.
Rev. James P. Bradley, S.J., the Provincial of the Society of Jesus announced the appointment of the Reverend Anthony H. Ostini, S.J. as the director of Manresa House of Retreat in Convent, La. Fr. Ostini was a native of Mobile and entered the Society of Jesus in 1960. He graduated from McGill Institute and Spring Hill College.
