McGill-Toolen’s Adrienne Ratcliff was selected to play on the Fast Pitch Softball North-South All-Star Game in Montgomery.
Fr. Edward Conline, Edmundite priest, who served in Edmundite parishes from Dauphin Island to Gadsden in Alabama died at the age of 78. He had been a priest for 52 years in the Society of St. Edmund.
Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb blessed and dedicated the new education facilities and administration offices at Corpus Christi Parish. Fr. James Zoghby served as pastor.
The 49th annual Blessing of the Fleet was held at St. Margaret Parish in Bayou La Batre.
McGill-Toolen student Elizabeth Fiser was chosen to represent Alabama in Germany as recipient of the Congress-Bundestay Youth Exchange Scholarship Program to spend the 1998-99 school year attending high school in Germany. More than 2,000 students applied and 200 students from across the U.S.A. were chosen.
The Annual Mary’s Day Celebration was held in Mobile at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb gave the opening address at the Catholic Common Ground Initiative in New Jersey. Archbishop Lipscomb succeeded the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin as chairman.
