Fr. Thomas Weise, diocesan director of Catholic Relief Services, visited hospitals at a Pakistani Refugee Camp run by Mother Teresa, Sisters of Charity of India.
St. Columba's CYO basketball team won the City Church League. Members were Mark Tatom, Tommy Bradshaw, Bobby Ziegler, Craig Col, Jackie Wimbish, Tommy Hedstrom, Eric Wetzel and John Hein.
St. Ignatius won the CYO boys' basketball tournament with Corpus Christi second and Holy Family third.
Winner of the ninth annual Mobile Spelling Bee was Joan Smith of St. Mary Parish.

Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb, speaking to 40 Catholic leaders, gathered for the first Cardinal Bernardin Conference of the Catholic Common Ground Initiative and said “dialogue is not about relativism, but fidelity.”
With a superb blending of scripture, poetry, personnel experience and humor, Irene Murphy, religious educator and vice president of Benziger Publishing Company, “sounded some powerful keynotes” during the Professional Days held at Christ the King School, Daphne, and Resurrection School, Montgomery.
St. Ignatius Parish celebrated the 50th jubilee anniversary of the parish with Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb dedicating the St. Augustine Early Childhood Center. A Mass at the Church and a reception in the Marian Center followed.
Members of the St. Jude basketball team who completed a 20-7 season were Deanton Ezelie, Allen Baker, Chris Caver, Lawrence McIntyre, Roger McDuffie, Thomas Stewart, Juvon May, Rodney Allen, Kerry Harrell, Monreko Crittenden, Keinodrick Sims and Michael Carr. The team was coached by Harry Scott and assistants coach Johnson and coach Barnes.
Selected Azalea Trail Maids for McGill-Toolen High School were Natalie McDonald, Sara Mareno, Beth Di Palma, Peggy Green, Erin Booker and Adrienne Ratcliff.
The Festival of Flowers, which helps fund Providence Hospital’s additional state-of-the-art equipment for its open heart surgery suites, was held on the campus of Spring Hill College.
