Cardinal Joseph L. Bernardin of Chicago announced that Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb of Mobile would be his successor as chairman of the Common Ground Project committee.

The McGill-Toolen Dirty Dozen volleyball team won its 15th state championship. Tournament MVP was Beth Olen. Erin Hostrander and Holly Miller were also named to the all-tournament team. The State champs were coached by Becky Dickinson.

Paulist Father James G. Walsh, who served at St. Vincent Parish, Mobile, died in New York at the age of 89.
