Rev. Emil Stec, C.R., was named pastor of Church of the Resurrection in Montgomery.
The Annual Pink Tea sponsored by the Bishop Toolen Alumnae was held in the school cafeteria in Mobile. Mrs. Charles J. Pollman served as president. Mrs. James B. Bullen and Mrs. W. L. Ankerson served as co-chairmen of the event.
The Mobile Deanery Council of the Parent Teachers Association voted a statewide PTA.
The annual Christ the King celebration was Nov. 22. For the first time there was no procession and liturgical services were held at Mobile’s Municipal Auditorium.
The new Gift Shop sponsored by the Ladies’ Auxiliary opened at the Providence Hospital in Mobile. Mrs. Ed Meyercord was coordinator and Mrs. Paula Wilkins, chairman of the shop.
The new St. Bartholomew Church at Elberta was dedicated by Bishop John L. May. Fr. Gabriel was serving as pastor.
25 Years Ago Kay McLeod and Shirley Nettles were honored as the recipients of Mercy Medical’s annual McAuley Award during Mercy Day festivities. The awards were presented by Sister Mary Eileen Wilhelm, R.S.M. President/CEO.
The 60th annual Conference of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women of the Archdiocese of Mobile was held at the Auburn University Hotel and Conference Center. The theme was “My Soul Proclaims the Greatness of the Lord.” The closing banquet was presided over by Mary Gaines, general chairman and president of the Montgomery Deanery. Pat Schrand served as president of the Archdiocesan Women.
Joe Langan was recipient of the Standard of Christ Award given by the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Kevin O’Brien, executive director of JVC, presented the award.
Approximately 850 athletes representing 48 teams participated in the state volleyball tournament hosted by McGill-Toolen High School. McGill-Toolen Coach Becky Dickinson was awarded a silver plaque commemorating her 1,000th victory. McGill-Toolen’s team was ranked No. 1 in statewide 6A play.
Sister Maureen, O.R.E, Director of the Office of Religion Education, announced that Rebecca Titford and Kathy Weber would fill new positions as associate directors of the Office of Religious Education.
James Upshaw, a senior at Catholic High, was named the first recipient of St. Mary’s of Loretto/Catholic High Alumni Association’s “Senior Service Award” established by the Alumni Committee to encourage service to CHS.
Ashley Arcement, of Christ the King Parish, Daphne, was selected winner of the 1995 Student Auditions competition for the Symphony Committee.
Dr. Robert Martin Schaefer, member of Holy Family Parish, was named chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Science at the University of Mobile.
