Sgt. William M. Mingus, of the Mobile Police Department and former student of Catholic Boys Home, graduated from GBI National’s 85th anniversary class in Washington, D.C.
James (Jimbo) Betbeze, St. Dominic scout, received the M. O. Beale Scroll of Merit for the heroic act of saving a young boy’s life at the Gulf.
Four Providence School of Nursing students received recognition as outstanding graduates: Louise Provost of Foley; and Frankie Weiss, Linda Vogtner and Mary Alice Walsh of Mobile.
Joseph F. Danner, former McGill Institute student and a senior at Spring Hill College, was awarded an NDEA Title IV Fellowship to the University of Virginia.
Special recognition was given to two golden Jubilarians of the Class of 1920 of the Providence School of Nursing. Mrs. Angela Dunlop and Mrs. R. L. Null received gold pins from alumni president Mrs. Frank Forrest.
Brother Andre Robichaud, S.C. of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart was named new administrator of Catholic Schools in Mobile by Bishop John L. May.
James F. Romano was elected Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 3565 in Mobile.

Bradley Donaghey, chairman of McGill-Toolen’s “Finding Roots-Gaining Wings” centennial raised $3,505,724.86 in gifts and pledges. Volunteers who helped boost the campaign over its $2.25 million goal were thanked at a gathering at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Phillip Madonia by Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb and Fr. Bry Shields, school president.
Eddie Jenkins was honored by Spring Hill College for 50 years of lifetime service working at the Jesuit college.
Jubilee Bells rang at the Dominican Monastery in Marbury, Alabama as Sister Mary of the Rosary, O.P., celebrated her 50th Anniversary.
Winners of the Joe Perez Memorial golf tournament sponsored by CHSAAM at Spring Hill College were the team of Fr. Bry Shields, Gavin Bender, Vance McCown and Judson Sanders. Vincent Arata served as alumni president.
Corpus Christi parishioner Joseph F. Lee was honored as an Eagle Scout, the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank. He was a member of Scout Troop 145 and a student at McGill-Toolen.

Queen of Peace Catholic Parish, Selma, celebrated its 125th anniversary. Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb celebrated the Mass. Fr. Carrol Plourde, S.S.E., served as pastor.
The Sisters of the Visitation celebrated two profession ceremonies — Sister Margaret Mary Williams pronounced her perpetual vows and Sister Theodosia Sulek took vows as a Visitandine.
McGill-Toolen girls’ golf team won the state championship by a whopping 60 strokes. Teams members were Leslie Brislin, Leigh Ankerson, Amanda Mize and Tricia Burch.
