MONTGOMERY — Dominique Verville, a parishioner at Holy Spirit Parish in Montgomery, was selected as the 2020 Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama.
Verville, represented Montgomery County at the Distinguished Young Women of Alabama program Jan. 17-18 at Frazer United Methodist in Montgomery. The Distinguished Young Women program evaluates participants in the categories of scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression.
In June, she will represent Alabama at the Distinguished Young Women of America program in Mobile.
Dominique is the daughter of Jacques and Alannah Verville.
St. Michael Catholic High School coach selected as Alabama Cross Country ‘Coach of the Year’
FAIRHOPE — Coach Jon Hall, head coach of St. Michael’s state championship cross-country team, was named Alabama’s Cross Country “Coach of the Year” across all classifications by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association.
St. Michael won the boys’ 3A state championship in early November. It was the first ever state championship for the four-year-old school.
Hall teaches A.P. Physics, Engineering and Honors Freshman Physics at St. Michael. He coaches cross-country in the fall and track in the spring. He is also the founder of the science program at St. Michael as one of the original faculty of the school.
Montgomery Area Perpetual Adoration Chapel preparing to celebrate 26th anniversary
MONTGOMERY — The Montgomery Area Perpetual Adoration Chapel will mark the 26th anniversary of its opening with a celebration at 3 p.m. Feb. 16.
It was one of the first and is the longest-continuing perpetual adoration chapel in the Archdiocese of Mobile and is located behind Our Lady Queen of Mercy Catholic Church, 4421 Narrow Lane Road in Montgomery.
The chapel was dedicated on Feb. 6, 1994. Since the adorers have visited and prayed before the Blessed Sacrament 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year for 26 years. The anniversary will be celebrated with a Mass and Benediction. A procession from the church will continue through the parish grounds to the chapel accompanied by the honor guard of the Knights of Columbus and Knights of Peter Claver. Fr. James Dean, pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Prattville and former pastor of Our Lady Queen of Mercy, will be the main celebrant. He will be assisted by present pastor Msgr. Juan Celzo.

St. Thomas by-the-Sea Parish hosting ‘Lord Teach Me to Pray’ training retreat
St. Thomas by-the-Sea Parish in Orange Beach will host part one of the three-part Ignatian Prayer Series “Lord Teach Me to Pray” training retreat on Feb. 8.
Part 1 – “Praying Christian Virtues” with Fr. Marty Gleeson, O.P. and John and Carol Weiler will begin with Mass at 8:30 a.m. and end by 5 p.m. The event is free, although participants are asked register and bring a lunch, drink and snacks.

St. Pius X hosting Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit
St. Pius X Parish in Mobile will host the exhibit “The Eucharistic Miracles of the World.”
The exhibit will be available from 1-7 p.m. Feb. 8 and from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 9 in the parish’s Family Life Center. It includes nearly 150 placards that present Eucharistic Miracles which have taken place throughout the ages and have been recognized by the Church.
Archangel (Radio) Communications Inc. has stored the placards in recent years and now the exhibit comes through the evangelization efforts of Bill and Peggy White of Pensacola. They are taking the exhibit across the country in honor of their 50th anniversary of marriage.
Riello to lead mission at St. Dominic Parish
St. Dominic Parish in Mobile will host a parish mission titled “The Pursuit of God: God’s Thirst for Your Soul,” March 16-18.
The mission will begin at 7 p.m. each day and will be led by Tom Riello, co-host of Archangel Radio’s “Water Cooler Cathechism.”
