Submitted by Caroline McDonald For The Catholic Week All are invited to an Advent mission led by Fr. Matthew Baugh, SJ, at 7 p.m. Dec. 14-16 in the old church building at St. Ignatius Parish, Mobile. The sacrament of Reconciliation will also be available Dec. 16.
The theme is "Comfort My People: The Advent of God's Light in our Darkness," based on the book of Isaiah. According to Fr. Baugh “We will engage in a series of spiritual exercises in the style of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Standing alongside the prophet Isaiah, we hear the unimaginable news: God has come to us at precisely the moment we thought we were unreachable! The word that rings out – Comfort my People – is not only God’s gift to us, but also the mission He assigns us as He draws us into his mighty work.”
Fr. Baugh holds the Philosophy & Letters Chair in Catholicism and Community at Saint Louis University, where he also serves as director of the Catholic Studies Center and teaches Catholic political thought. He assists with the formation of young Jesuits at Bellarmine House of Studies. From 2013-16, he taught at Spring Hill College and developed a deep love of Mobile, which he considers his hometown by adoption.
— The mission is free. For more information, contact the St. Ignatius Parish office at 251-342-9221.
