By The Catholic Week MOBILE — McGill-Toolen Catholic High School has named David Faulkner as its new head football coach.
Faulkner spent the past two seasons at West Virginia University as special assistant to head coach Neal Brown. Prior to going to WVU, Faulkner was the director of player personnel and high school relations at Troy University for two years.
Faulkner also has a successful history as an Alabama high school football coach. Before entering the college ranks, Faulkner spent seven seasons as head coach at Enterprise High School. He led Enterprise to four playoff appearances and was named Alabama 7A Coach of the Year following a 10-2 campaign in 2016. Ironically, Enterprise’s campaign ended with a second-round playoff loss to McGill-Toolen.
Faulkner also spent three seasons as head coach at Fairhope High School, where he amassed a 28-9 record.
Faulkner replaces Norman Joseph, who went 10-12 in two seasons at McGill-Toolen.
“After a very intense and thorough search for a head coach, I am excited to announce that we have hired David Faulkner from the University of West Virginia,” McGill-Toolen athletic director Bill Griffin said in a release. “Coach Faulkner is no stranger to our area or to the AHSAA having coached at Fairhope, Foley, Bryant, Enterprise and Hoover before joining coach Neal Brown at Troy University and the University of West Virginia.”
A news conference is slated for Jan. 30.
