By Roberta Genovese Catholic mothers in the greater Dothan area were treated on Mother’s Day to a delectable meal in St. Columba’s parish hall. Organized by Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Jack Porter and supervised by Don Gardino, the event took place after the 10 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 8.
Lavishly decorated tables featured rose bouquets and floral tableware in shades of pink, rose and red. Ornamental bookmarks and pearl-like Rosary decades, mingled with chocolate kisses, added a welcome note at each place setting. Pastor Rev. Jim Dane welcomed the guests and led the blessing before the meal. The buffet menu offered an egg and bacon strada casserole, shrimp and grits, French toast, sausage, bacon and fresh fruit medley. Coffee, juice and cheesecake rounded out the feast.
More than 200 attended the event, which was presented by Council #6727 and included the efforts of Tom Blindauer, Bill Clements, Sam Enfinger, Joe Katz, Brad Novak, Dan Urtiaga, Don Walker and Lee Zdunuski. The décor was overseen by Anne Urtiaga and Jan Enfinger with help from the Knights’ spouses.
In a final touch, each mother was presented with a long-stemmed red rosebud as a parting gift.
