By The Catholic Week The McGill-Toolen Catholic High School volleyball team made it three state championships in a row with a dramatic win over Bob Jones High School on Oct. 30. The Dirty Dozen captured the Class 7A title with a 3-2 (25-22, 25-17,18-25, 24-26, 15-13) win at the CrossPlex Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham. The match had 26 tie scores and 12 lead changes before McGill-Toolen earned the title. It was the third consecutive year the Dirty Dozen defeated Bob Jones for the state title and it was the program’s 24th state title. Paris McQuirter had 26 of McGill-Toolen’s 63 total kills to earn tournament MVP honors. She was joined on the team by Catherine McClain, who added 20 kills and 17 digs for McGill-Toolen and setter Alice Wood had 53 assists, 14 digs, and four service aces. Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School and St. Michael Catholic High School also earned state tournament appearances. Montgomery Catholic fell 3-2 to UMS-Wright in the Class 5A state semifinals on Oct. 30. St. Michael reached the state quarterfinals and dropped a 3-0 decision to Madison County.
