By The Catholic Week In celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi, St. Mary Parish will host a procession on June 6.
This event begins with 9 a.m. Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, followed by a 1-mile City of Mobile-approved procession from St. Joan of Arc to St. Mary Catholic Church for Benediction at 11 a.m. The benediction will be followed by a St. Mary Knights of Columbus Barbeque.
All First Communicants from every parish are invited to wear their First Communion attire and join in the procession. All First Communicants also need to bring a basket for rose petals (petals provided by St. Mary Parish), wear comfortable shoes and have a guardian with them.
The occasion also marks the 10 year anniversary of ordination of St. Mary Pastor Fr. Stephen Vrazel.
All are welcome. St. Mary will provide a trolley and golf carts for those who want to participate but are unable to walk the route. Shuttle transportation will be provided back to St. Joan of Arc following the event.

Sister Carol Estelle Wheeler, RSM, a Mobile native who served for decades as principal and president at Mercy High School in Baltimore, passed away May 15, 2021, in Timonium, Md.
Sister Carol was 84 and had been a Sister of Mercy for 62 years. While much of Sister Carol's ministry was in Baltimore, she taught one year at Bishop Toolen High School.
Born Sept. 9, 1936, she was the daughter of Frederick Grant Wheeler and Agnes Estelle Ryan Wheeler. She attended St. Mary grammar school, Bishop Toolen High School and Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis where she graduated with a degree in English.
She entered the Sisters of Mercy community in 1959 when she was 22. She made her novitiate at Mount Washington and received Sister Mary Seraphia as her name in religion. She was sent to teach at the newly-opened Mercy High School in Baltimore. After seven years at Mercy High, she returned for one year to Bishop Toolen High School, then spent the next few years at Georgetown University in Washington, earning her Master's Degree in Philosophy in 1971. She returned to teach at Mercy High in Baltimore twice before coming back permanently in 1976 for a four decade-ministry at the school. In 1977, Sister Mary Seraphia, now known as Sister Carol Estelle Wheeler, was appointed principal of the school, and later, principal and president. She retained the title of president until her retirement in 2013, after which she continued as an educational consultant.
Sister Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Fredrick Grant Wheeler, Junior. She is survived by her sister, Erin Ryan Wheeler, first cousins Jack (Emily) O'Neill, Reggie (Sherry) Wheeler of Mobile, Liska Forsyth of Check, Va., and other relatives.
Graveside service and burial was May 25, 2021, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Baltimore. A Memorial Mass of Remembrance will be at 10 a.m. Eastern Saturday, June 26 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Baltimore and livestreamed at www.facebook.com/IHMChurchMD and www.youtube.com/IHMChurchMD.
