Bishop Toolen graduate, veteran honored

Bishop Toolen Catholic High School graduate Master Gunnery Sgt. Cynthia House was honored last month as the first Mobile Bay Area Veteran of the Year selected by the South Alabama Veterans Council.
House is a 1971 graduate of Bishop Toolen and spent more than 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps before retiring in 1998. House won several awards throughout her service in the military, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one star and the Good Conduct medal with four stars.
House is now the National Journal Director for the National Montford Point Marine Association. She remains active in the Foster L. Harington Detachment of the Marine Corps League, American Legion, Women Marine Association, South Alabama Veterans Council and the Mobile Bay Area Veterans Day Commission.
