By ROB HERBST The Catholic Week Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi installed 17 Archdiocese of Mobile permanent diaconate candidates in the Ministry of Acolyte on Jan. 8 during Mass at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
The Ministry of Acolyte is the final ministry received prior to ordination as a deacon.
Ordination to the permanent diaconate is scheduled for June 11 at the Cathedral.
Their Ministry as Acolytes includes assisting at the altar during Mass. They will serve during liturgies, purify sacred vessels and serve as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion.
Two candidates also received the Ministry of Lector along with the Ministry of Acolyte. Other candidates received the Ministry of Lector in 2020.
