Aquí estoy Señor — Here I am Lord

Habla que tu servidor te escucha” fue la respuesta del joven Samuel cuando reconoció la voz de Dios llamándole en la noche.  También Isaías, al escuchar la voz del Señor preguntando a quien enviaría como mensajero, respondió: “Aquí me tienes, mándame a mí.”
A través de la historia de la salvación, desde el libro del Génesis hasta Apocalipsis, el Señor ha llamado a sus discípulos y los ha enviado a servirle a través del servicio que prestan a su pueblo. Este llamado toma diferentes formas de acuerdo a los dones que Dios nos ha dado a cada uno.
Recientemente hicimos un llamado a los hombres de habla hispana de la Arquidiócesis de Mobile a asistir a las juntas de discernimiento y consulta del nuevo programa de formación para el diaconado permanente que está programado a comenzar en el verano del 2022.
La respuesta a este llamado nos llena de alegría y de esperanza: dieciocho hombres y sus esposas, de todas las esquinas de la Arquidiócesis de Mobile, asistieron a la primera sesión de discernimiento y consulta. Estas sesiones se llevaron a cabo en los tres centros regionales de formación que están localizados en la parroquia San Columba en Dothan, parroquia San Patricio de Roberstdale, y parroquia Santa Maria de la Misión en Opelika.
Durante esta primera sesión se habló sobre discernimiento, el llamado o vocación, la actitud de apertura, generosidad y valentía que debemos observar durante este proceso, la importancia de la oración, las cualidades y virtudes que debe poseer el aplicante idóneo, entre otros temas.
Les exhorto a que sigamos orando sin cesar para que el Espíritu Santo acompañe a estos dieciocho hombres, sus esposas y familias en este proceso de discernimiento para el diaconado permanente, que les de la gracia de mantener los oídos de sus corazones abiertos para reconocer el llamado del Señor, la firmeza para responder “habla que tu siervo te escucha” y la valentía para aceptar su voluntad diciendo “aquí estoy Señor, mándame a mí.”

“Speak Lord, for your servant is listening" was the response of young Samuel when he recognized the voice of God calling him in the night. Also Isaiah, upon hearing the voice of the Lord asking who should He send as a messenger, replied: "Here I am, send me."
Throughout the history of salvation, from the book of Genesis to Revelation, the Lord has called His disciples and has sent them to serve Him through the service they give to His people. This call takes different forms according to the gifts that God has given each of us.
We recently called on the Spanish-speaking men of the Archdiocese of Mobile to attend the discernment and consultation meetings of the new permanent diaconate formation program that is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2022.
The response to this call fills us with joy and hope: 18 men from all corners of the Archdiocese of Mobile attended the first discernment and consultation session. These sessions were held at the three regional formation centers located at St. Columba Parish in Dothan, St. Patrick Parish in Roberstdale and St. Mary of the Mission Parish in Opelika.
During this first session, they learned about the discernment process, as well as the attitude of openness, generosity and courage that must be observed during this process, the importance of prayer, the qualities and virtues that the suitable applicant to the diaconate must possess, among other topics.
I ask you to continue to pray without ceasing that the Holy Spirit accompanies these eighteen men, their wives and families in this discernment process for the permanent diaconate. Pray that He will give them the grace to keep the ears of their hearts open to recognize the call. of the Lord, the firmness to answer "speak Lord, for your servant is listening,” and the courage to accept His will by saying "here I am Lord, send me."
