By The Catholic Week FAIRHOPE — St. Michael Catholic High School Principal Faustin Weber announced he plans to retire as school principal following the 2022-23 school year.
Weber announced his decision in a letter to parents, students, supporters and friends. He is the founding principal of the school, initially hired in the summer of 2015 before the school opened in August 2016.
Weber was raised in Mobile and was also Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School principal from 1989-2001 and president from 2001-2008. Between his time at Montgomery Catholic and St. Michael, Weber was headmaster of Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, Tenn., just outside Nashville.
In his letter, Weber wrote: "Our mission is to form 'scholars, leaders and disciples of Jesus Christ.' What I am most proud of here is that we’ve created a lively, dynamic Catholic community of faith, anchored by our weekly Mass together, supported by our local priests and pastors, and led by our campus ministry program. One of our recent graduates, when asked what she will most miss about St. Michael, said,'I am not Catholic, so somewhat surprisingly, my response is I will miss Mass and Adoration—they’ve brought me closer to Jesus.’ "
Weber added that while he will leave St. Michael, he will pursue head of school positions elsewhere in Catholic education.
