MOBILE — Musica Sacra Choir and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Christopher Uhl, will perform “An Evening of Gabriel Fauré,” including his Requiem in D minor, at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mobile (217 S. Sage Ave.).
All are welcome and donations will be accepted at the door.
Uhl recently completed his 21st year as a teacher at Hoosac School, an Episcopal boarding school in Hoosick, N.Y., where he teaches music and English and directs the annual Boar’s Head and Yule Log Pageant, now in its 134th year.
In addition, he is organist-choirmaster of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy, N.Y., and continues as music director and conductor of Musica Sacra Choir and Chamber Orchestra in Mobile, which he helped found more than 35 years ago.
Uhl is the former music director and organist of the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and St. Ignatius Parish and a former teacher at the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science.
He is a graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J. Uhl did further study with Gerre Hancock at St. Thomas Church in New York City and with James Goettsche at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
His conducting career has taken him along the Central Gulf Coast from New Orleans to Pensacola as well as to France and Italy.
