By Bobbie Genovese For The Catholic Week DOTHAN — This year’s Knights of Columbus Council 6727 Annual Seminarian Dinner on July 14 at St. Columba Parish in Dothan honored the late Knight, Bob Prickett, who passed away this past year. In 2011, Prickett originated the concept of a dinner to help fund the seminarians of the Archdiocese of Mobile, beginning an annual tradition that endures at the parish. The parish hall was filled to capacity, attended by 13 of the 15 young men currently studying for the priesthood. Following an initial gathering and social hour, Master of Ceremonies Jeff Sandoz welcomed the guests and dignitaries, including Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi, Keynote Speaker Danny Garcia, State Deputy of the Alabama Council of the Knights of Columbus, and area clergy. St. Columba Pastor Fr. Jim Dane gave the blessing before the meal. Following Archbishop Rodi’s introduction of the seminarians, Vocations Director Fr. Patrick Gilbreath invited transitional Deacon Joseph Schultz as well as Thomas Benson to share their personal journeys to the vocation of priesthood. Also in attendance were St. Columba’s newly-appointed parochial Fr. Thomas LaPointe and Deacon Joe Mueller. Patrick Donovan provided music and youth from the parish Lifeteen group helped with serving and cleanup. As in past years, the attending seminarians received a check from the Knights of Columbus to help pay for their personal expenses in the coming year. The evening concluded with a Prayer for Vocations led by Father Jim Dane. Next year’s event is scheduled for July 12 2024.
