By The Catholic Week The Solemnity of Christ the King procession and Mass in downtown Mobile will return this year on Sunday, Nov. 21.
A Rosary procession from Bienville Square to the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception will begin at 10:30 a.m. Mass will follow at approximately 11 a.m. Volunteers representing parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Mobile will be awarded the Christ the King Medal in recognition of shining the light of Christ in their community and beyond.
The Mass will also be livestreamed at Facebook.com/mobilearchdiocese.
Last year’s procession was cancelled due to COVID-19. A private Mass was celebrated for medalists.
However, the Solemnity of Christ the King, which is celebrated on the last Sunday of each liturgical year, is meant to be celebrated in public. Pope Pius XI instituted the feast in 1925 in response to growing secularism and nationalism. The Kingdom of God calls everyone to a whole life of worship and service in the public square.
