By ROB HERBST The Catholic Week Several Holy Week and Easter liturgies and traditions will return to their pre-COVID-19 form this year and all are invited to participate.
Chrism Mass
All are invited to this year’s Chrism Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12 at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Last year’s attendance was limited due to COVID-19. Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi will bless the oils that will be used in every celebration of Baptism, Confirmation, the Anointing of the Sick, Priestly Ordination and church or altar dedication in the archdiocese during the coming year.
Priests from throughout the archdiocese will also renew their priestly promises.
Good Friday
Two traditions will return this year after an absence due to COVID-19.
n The Archdiocese of Mobile Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry will sponsor a Living Stations of the Cross beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, April 15.
The stations will begin at Spanish Plaza in downtown Mobile and culminate at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
n The Knights of Columbus Council 666 will bring back a tradition that began in 1967 as it hosts Stations of the Cross at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 15 at Cathedral Square. Archbishop Rodi will again lead the faithful as they prayerfully walk the Way of the Cross.
Divine Mercy
Sunday
The Sisters of the Visitation will host a Feast of Divine Mercy celebration at Visitation Monastery on Sunday, April 24. This will be the first public Divine Mercy Celebration at Visitation Monastery since 2019.
Confessions will be heard beginning at 1:30 p.m. Adoration, Benediction and the Rosary will begin at 2 p.m. Fr. Norbert Jurek, chaplain of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Student Center at the University of South Alabama, will celebrate Mass at 3 p.m.

For those unable to attend, liturgies celebrated by Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception will be livestreamed at Facebook.com/mobilearchdiocese. These include the Chrism Mass (11 a.m. April 12), Mass of the Lord's Supper (5:15 p.m. April 14), Good Friday (3 p.m. April 15), Easter Vigil (8 p.m. April 16) and Easter Sunday Mass (10:30 a.m. April 17).
