Prayer is the foundation of all stewardship

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” – Romans 12:12
This is the verse that speaks loudest to me in these crazy times. In January I joked that the year 2020 was sure to be a year of perfect vision. That was before we were blindsided with a global pandemic. Nonetheless, as Christian stewards, we are called to turn to God, remain hopeful and prayerful to see the light of Christ during these trying times.
In all things pray. Yes, prayer is the foundation of all stewardship. Sharing our time with God in prayer is the first step in living a life of Christian stewardship. How are we supposed to know God’s plan in our lives if we don’t take the time to listen to Him? We are reminded of this call to pray throughout scripture. “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” (I Thessalonians 5:16-18)
As Christian disciples, prayer should be a priority. Think about how often you text or call your family or best friends. How often does God hear from us? We all lead busy lives and too often we don’t offer God the time He deserves. One way we can start a routine of personal prayer each day is to schedule God into our busy day. We wouldn’t miss an appointment with a client, doctor or best friend; so keep a daily appointment with God. Our days may be hectic, but thankfully God is flexible and He rejoices in every minute we share with Him.
Next time you are in the car alone, have a conversation with God or pray the Rosary. Making time to pray is essential. Maybe you set aside quiet time with God in the mornings or evenings. If prayer is not in your daily routine, then make that appointment and set a timer for a daily conversation with God. Just remember that prayer is the foundation for becoming the steward that God wants us to be in all areas of our lives. Imagine what the world would be like if every human on earth spent just 10 minutes a day in conversation with our Heavenly Father.
“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
