The theme of the 1972 Catholic Charities Drive was “Love Enough.”
Children of St. Jude were guests of Mrs. George Wallace at the Governor’s Mansion.
Sister Mary Christine Yurick, V.S.C., directed the music program of St. Jude’s Church.
Division Chairmen named for the Catholic Charities Drive were: Mrs. John Meagher, Auburn; Mr. Michael Ford, Baldwin; Mr. Joseph N. Langan, Mobile; Mr. Vincent Bosarge, Bayou la Batre; Mrs. Michael Craft, Citronelle; and Mr. John Crear, Selma.
Study Day on Ecumenism was held in Montgomery at St. Peter’s Parish conducted by Rev. David J. Bowman, S.J.
Accompanying Boy Scout Troop 4, Montgomery, on a weekend campout were Bill Martin, Allan Thames and J. Marvin Ratley.
A goal of $425,000 was set for the 1972 Catholic Charities Drive which was to begin on Sunday January 16.
Four area laymen received the 1971 Catholic Charities Award. They were: Eugene E. Ellis and Joseph Langan of Mobile, Larry Neuhoff of Montgomery and John Conti, Dothan.
Retired Archbishop Thomas J. Toolen was hospitalized at Providence Hospital for a gall bladder problem.
The Knights of Peter Claver, Council 1 announced officers. Elected were: J. M. Seals, grand knight; G. W. Lang, deputy grand knight; J. Perez, financial secretary; G. W. McKinney, recording secretary; and R. F. Brazier, III, treasurer.

Rev. William J. Skoneki, director of the 1997 Catholic Charities Appeal announced the goal for the Drive was $2,500,000. The Theme for the Appeal was “Be the Light of Love, Give.”
Pictured at the first RAINBOWS/SPECTRUM training for High School Counselors were: Jeannie Sanderford, Maria Coleman, Carolyn Saunders, Jeannie Austin, Karen Williams, Terri Mudge, Mary Ann McConnell, Lynn Ucci and Ann Thurston. Mary Ann McConnell was director for the archdiocese.
The Little Sisters of the Poor annual Bridge Luncheon was held in the auditorium of the Sacred Heart Residence. Mother Judith Meredith, L. S. P., was administrator of the residence. Eloise Fadalla was general chairperson of the event and Jo Ann Ryan was door prize chairperson.
The Brothers of the Sacred Heart celebrated 150 years of serving young people through Catholic Education in the United States.
Our Lady of Lourdes School was awarded accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Serving as principal was Mrs. Carol Dupree.
The Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Conference (ACYC) sponsored by the Archdiocese of Mobile Office of Youth Ministry announced that the Youth Conference theme would be: “Don’t hide Christ in your life …” Greg Thompson served as director of OYM.
