New officers of St. Joseph’s Altar Society, Prattville, were: Mrs. Nancy Strachan, president; Mrs. June Benedict, vice president; Mrs. Martha Marston, secretary; Mrs. Phil Wierzbicki, treasurer; Mrs. Hilary McKenney, publicity; and Mrs. Sandy Youngblood, parliamentarian.
McGill cheerleaders for 1971 were: Janie Henricksen, Ginger Crow, Sissy Palmer, Mimi Conwell, Kathy Rollins, Katherine Zoghby, Cary Bolling, Ade Bodet, Mike Zoghby, Tony Bosco, Tommy Pollman and Peter Darr.
Receiving awards at Providence Hospital School of Nursing were Linda Livingston, Sherrye Bellew Taylor, Michael Rochford and Billy Ray Keith.
CYO officers were: Butch Turner, president; Dennis Fobes, vice president; Susie Perez, secretary; Shawn Langan, treasurer; and Pepper Woolsey, sergeant at arms.
Msgr. James F. Madigan celebrated his 25th year as pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish and his assistant, Rev. Francis O’Connor celebrated his 25th year in the priesthood.
Richard Cleveland was named Ideal Graduate and Tony Bivens Student Athlete at the annual Awards Day at McGill Institute.
Sister Mary Angelica, C.S.F.N., directed the art fair at Resurrection School, Montgomery.
Mary Pollman and Anne Martin, Providence student nurses, attended the National Nurses Convention in Dallas.
Fr. Francis Murphy, pastor of Christ the King Parish, Daphne, celebrated his 25th Jubilee in the priesthood.
St. Bede Parish celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Twenty-seven senior students were presented diplomas at St. Margaret School of Nursing, Montgomery.
Most Rev. John L. May conferred 76 diplomas, a record number at St. Jude High School.
Student Council Officers at Montgomery Catholic High were: Brigid Reickenback, president; Carolyn Mungenast, vice president; and Michelle Lassonde, secretary/treasurer.
Rev. Edward D. Fichman of Prince of Peace Parish celebrated his Silver Jubilee.
Officers of Catholic High PTA were: Mrs. Donald Dieters, president; Mrs. Wanda Garris, secretary; and Mrs. Margaret Olive Jones, treasurer.

25 Years Ago
     The Rev. George O. Twellimeyer, S.J., former Spring Hill College professor of chemistry died in Tampa. A funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph’s Chapel on the SHC campus.
     Msgr. Joseph Jennings, founding pastor of Our Savior Parish in Mobile, and Fr. Russell Biven, pastor, broke ground for the new parish church. Architect was Bruce Knodel and contractors were Norman Walton and John Pate. More than 500 parishioners attended.
Letters of intent were signed by McGill-Toolen students Lindsay Stuardi (basketball, Spring Hill College); Kristie Black (softball, the University of Alabama); and Dannese Littles (volleyball, Auburn University).
Nationally acclaimed speaker and media personality Char Vance was guest speaker at Little Flower Parish, Mobile, prior to the Eucharistic Healing Mass.
Changes as pastors in the Archdiocese of Mobile were: Rev. James E. Dane, pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Mobile; Rev. Cu Minh Duong, pastor of St. Monica Parish, Mobile; Rev. Wilbur T. Kissell, St. Andrew Parish, Montgomery; Rev. Vincent M. McDonnell, pastor of St. Agatha Parish, Bay Minette; Rev. William J. Skoneki, pastor of St. Dominic Parish, Mobile; and Rev. Eamon Miley, St. John Parish, Butler.
The 65th annual Field Day was held at the Texas Street Recreation Center. Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 people attended. St. Ignatius School won the Red Group Division and Little Flower School was the winner in the Blue Group.
Anthony McGinn, S.J. and Edward A. Overby were named to the Spring Hill College Board of Trustees.
Jeffrey C. Johnson, newly appointed Director of Music and Organist/Choirmaster for the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception presented a debut recital “Music for a Great Cathedral.”
Sister Judith Meredith greeted the 1996-98 officers of the Little Sisters of the Poor Auxiliary. Officers were; Dolores Galle, president; Eloise Fadalla, vice president; Joan Ryan, recording secretary; Helen Allen, corresponding secretary; Evelyn Cash, treasurer; Barbara Keller, historian; Catherine Alexander, parliamentarian; and Norma Jean Rooney, auditor.
