25 Years Ago Fr. Roger LaCharite, S.S.E., director of the Edmundite Missions Office in Selma and Mr. Tom Logan, executive director of the City of St. Jude in Montgomery were among the 700 attendees at the 29th annual National Catholic Development Conference in St. Louis, MO. Fr. LaCharite served on the board of directors of NCDC.
St. Mary parishioner and school parent Linda Collins Jensen was asked to serve on Leadership Mobile.
The Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women gathered in Mobile for their 62nd annual convention. Mary Ann Halliday of the Baldwin-Escambia Deanery presided. Speaker at the luncheon was William H. Pryor Jr., attorney general of Alabama. More than 200 attended from every district and deanery of the Archdiocese of Mobile.
St. Therese of Lisieux was named a doctor of the church by Pope John Paul II, placing her among the Catholic Church’s most important theologians.
Montgomery Catholic High School was honored as an outstanding volunteer service provider by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Senior Kristen Ryan accepted the “Angel Award” on behalf of Catholic High at a reception held in the Museum Rotunda.
Named outstanding players for the McGill-Toolen Homecoming game were Senior Jeremy Ankerson (Offense) and Sophomore Bryant Baggett (Defense). The Jackets defeated Mary Montgomery 28-12. Erin Nelson reigned as Queen of the Homecoming Court.
Holly Miller, McGill-Toolen senior, was selected as a state finalist in the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award program.
