25 Years Ago Msgr. Oliver Adams, Jr., pastor of St. Catherine Parish, Mobile, died July 21 following a cerebral hemorrhage which left the 68-year old priest in a weeklong coma. His tireless dedication for 43 years as a priest and pastor included serving as the City of Mobile’s Fire Department Chaplain. The Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Catherine Parish.
Sister Clare Charest, D.C. died suddenly and unexpectedly. She had been serving for twenty-two years in service to and care of the residents and staff of Cathedral Place. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Mobilian Sister Bakhita (Cindy Klein) was welcomed by Mother Teresa as a new member of her order at Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in New York.
Donald R. Carter, Sr., was chosen Grand Knight of Mobile Council 666 Knights of Columbus, succeeding J. Allen Duffy Jr. Carter’s wife, Debbie, was chosen president of the Council’s Ladies Auxiliary succeeding Mrs. Carolyn Duffy.
Fr. Albert P. Kelly, pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Millbrook, and St. Mark the Evangelist Mission, Wetumpka, celebrated his Silver Jubilee as a priest with a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Bede the Venerable, Montgomery.

Sister Audrey Kerber, OP, former teacher at Most Pure Heart of Mary School, Mobile, died at St. Dominic Villa in Dubuque, Iowa, at age 94.
Named the new dean of students at Spring Hill College was John Balog, who came to the college following his service as associate dean of students at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.
