Mrs. Diane Neibling was named new troop leader of Girl Scout Troop 89 at St. Bede’s.
St. Mary Parish, Mobile, completed restoration work on the sanctuary, which was begun six years prior.
Mrs. Grady Strachan served as chairman of the St. Joan of Arc Festival. She was assisted by Mrs. Peter Barrios, publicity chairman and Mrs. Woodrow Callaghan, dinner chairman.
Receiving recognition as “Outstanding Writers” at St. Jude Elementary School were Vicki Juzang, Michelle Dacus and Lynelle Lewis.
Little Flower junior girls’ basketball team, coached by Ramona Davis and Joann Sawyer, won first place in the CYO League. Team members were Lynn Imsand, Robin Toifel, Cindy Cunningham, Sandy Bollin, Michelle Weaver, Barbara Chappel, Sone Veillon, Cindy Heath, Kim Gomillian, Jodie Sawyer, Linda Minto and Cindy Jones. 25 Years

named Sister Judith Vander Griten, C.S.A., their 1997 Woman of Achievement during the 14th Annual Bay Area Women’s Conference.
Fr. George William Rutler, a priest of the Archdiocese of New York, was special guest and homilist for the annual Mass in honor of St. Patrick in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Seven area Knights of Columbus councils sent 31 men to join the ranks of the Third Degree in Mobile. The Councils were 666, 3565, 4888, 7270, 8959, 10903, 11554 and 11366 in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
Spring Hill College professor of philosophy, Dr. Richard Sneed, was co-recipient of the National Endowment for the Humanities grant.
McGill-Toolen’s Science Olympiad team competed at the University of Alabama. The team placed fifth in the regional tournament.
Spring Hill College announced the induction of the following new members into the Hall of Fame at the annual Reunion Weekend: Brandon “Trojan” Meriwether, Andy McLaughlin, Jim Spafford, Dr. Gerry Phillips, Jim Hendry and Dr. Ferdie Pacheco. Jim Rebarchak was chairman of the event.
A new “Distinguished Service Award” was established at Montgomery Catholic High by the Harbin family in memory of Charles T. Harbin, a great supporter of Catholic High during his lifetime.
