Submitted by Catholic Social Services DOTHAN — Celeste Kelly, the Area Director of Catholic Social Services - Dothan, was the recent recipient of a Super Citizen Award from Ms. Ard's Kelly Springs Elementary School second grade class during the Super Citizen graduation ceremony.
The “Helping Hands” project is a project of Liberty Learning Foundation that encourages students to nominate and honor a person in their school /community who is doing the work of a Super Citizen. Mrs. Kelly was presented the award by Makayla Pannell, who is a student in Ms. Ard's class. Makayla spoke about the services offered by Catholic Social Services and the Backpack Program that provides food for students in area schools who have food insufficiencies on the weekends. Makayla and her mother, Wendy Pannell serve as school volunteers and pick up hundreds of pounds of food from Catholic Social Services each month of the school year to help students.
Liberty Learning Foundation is a non-profit organization facilitating active civics and character programs in K-12 classrooms and orchestrating events that empower schools, parents, local leaders, and businesses to take ownership of the future of the community and country.
The Liberty Learning Foundation stresses the importance of reaching children when they are young with the belief that the most impact on future generations happens by reinforcement of civic and character concepts in multiple grades.
