By Rob Herbst The Catholic Week MOBILE — After serving as the Archdiocese of Mobile’s director of the Office for Hispanic Ministry for nearly six years, Deacon Hector Donastorg is stepping down from the position. Deacon Donastorg juggled the responsibilities of being at the Hispanic Ministry office in Mobile while also serving as deacon at St. Mary of the Mission Parish in Opelika and St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Auburn. He will continue to serve at the parish level. “For the last six years I have been spending weekdays in Mobile and throughout the archdiocese and weekends in Auburn and Opelika,” Deacon Donastorg said. “Auburn is also the place I call home as it is the place where my wife waits for me at the end of the week. So after almost six years of not being fully present in the life of my wife, we have decided it is time to step down as director of the Office of Hispanic Ministry.” The travel was challenging but Deacon Donastorg said it was a “privilege” and “honor” to serve as director, adding “Serving the people of God in our archdiocese has been a great blessing.” “He has been an instrument of God as he has fostered ministry for and with our Hispanic brothers and sisters throughout the archdiocese,” Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi said. Deacon Donastorg was ordained a permanent deacon in 2018, only a few months prior to taking over as director of the Office of Hispanic Ministry. The Office of Hispanic Ministry is under the Archdiocese of Mobile Office of Multicultural Ministry, which exists to foster the love of Christ and His Church to the people of all nations, cultures and languages throughout the archdiocese.
