By SUSAN DUFFEY For The Catholic Week MOBILE — The Daughters of Mary of St. Ignatius Parish in Mobile invite all women of the archdiocese to rejuvenate their prayer life with a morning of prayer, reflection and renewal led by author Heidi Saxton. The retreat on March 22 will begin with 8:15 a.m. Mass at St. Ignatius, 3704 Springhill Ave.
Saxton is senior acquisitions editor for Ave Maria press and editor of "The Ave Prayer Book for Catholic Mothers," an anthology of favorite prayers from Catholic mothers across America. She is the author of 13 books, including Lent with Saint Teresa of Calcutta and My Big Book of Catholic Bible Stories and has more than 20 years of experience in religious publishing. This retreat is part of her “Pray Across America” tour to pray with and encourage women who are feeling beleaguered by the ongoing pressure and isolation that have been part of these past few years.
Following Mass, participants will experience the one-hour Daughters of Mary weekly meeting with spiritual instruction on The Seven Sorrows of Mary given by Saxton, intercessory prayer and meditation and a Gospel reflection for the fourth Sunday in Lent.
The Daughters of Mary was founded at St. Ignatius Parish more than 10 years ago. The weekly hour of prayer is dedicated to forming a community of faithful, prayerful, insightful women who impart Gospel values to those with whom they live and work.
The focus of the hour of prayer is a reflective study of the Gospel for the upcoming Sunday, prepared by a different “daughter” each week. The second half of the retreat will focus on writing these Gospel reflections and on writing one's own “prayer story.” Saxton will be available for questions on writing, publishing and the “Seven Second Test” for writing an irresistible publishing proposal.
There is no registration fee, but donations are welcome and attendees are encouraged to purchase "The Ave Prayer book for Catholic Mothers" for $20 (includes a free prayer journal while supplies last).
