MOBILE — The Archdiocese of Mobile's annual Red Mass for members of the legal profession will be at 12:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. The Red Mass originated centuries ago and is called the Red Mass from the red vestments worn in symbolism of the tongues of fire that descended upon the Apostles at Pentecost and the martyrdom of saints such as Thomas More, patron saint of lawyers. A Red Mass in Montgomery will also be at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 3 at St. Peter Parish in Montgomery, with Bishop Steven Raica of Birmingham as the celebrant.
