Annual Catholic Charities Appeal supports more than 30 ministries across archdiocese

MOBILE — Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi and the Director of Development and Stewardship for the Archdiocese of Mobile, Mrs. Shannon D. Roh, have announced that the 2020 Catholic Charities Appeal goal is $4,500,000. The basic pledge is $576 per year, which is $48 per month for 12 months.
The 2020 Catholic Charities Appeal theme is We are to be Merciful to those in need. Inspired by St. Luke’s gospel, “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” — Luke 6:36.
The parishioners and friends throughout the Archdiocese of Mobile have shown their mercy to those in need throughout the southern half of Alabama for 89 years through their generosity to the annual Catholic Charities Appeal. The appeal supports more than 30 ministries across the Archdiocese of Mobile.
These ministries feed the hungry, clothe the naked, assist the elderly and those with disabilities, help a family adopt a child, provide life sustaining medication for those who cannot afford it, strengthen the faith of our youth, minister to the imprisoned, love the abandoned and even give hope to the unborn. Alabama is the sixth-poorest state in the nation according to alabamapossible.org.
In 18 of the 28 counties that make up the Archdiocese of Mobile, more than 20 percent of the population live below the poverty line. The need is great and your generosity is a blessing to tens of thousands of individuals in mental, physical and spiritual need who receive assistance each year.
The appeal kicked off in early January with Deanery meetings for all pastors and appeal leaders. A letter from Archbishop Rodi was mailed to every Catholic household in the Archdiocese of Mobile on Jan. 13.
A pledge envelope and brochure was enclosed with the letter. Please update your information on the envelope, add your pledge intention and return this pledge envelope to your parish. Jan. 26 is the 2020 Catholic Charities Appeal Sunday. We would like to have all pledges returned by Appeal Sunday. Serving as the archdiocesan chairs for the 2020 Catholic Charities appeal are Mr. and Mrs. Tim Mullek from St. Patrick Parish in Robertsdale. Tim is a native of Robertsdale and Roberta was raised in Mauldin, S.C..
She moved to Mobile to work as an accountant at Loyal American Life Insurance Company. She met Tim on Joe Cain Day in 1995 and they were married in September 1996. They have three children, Anna (22), Meg (20) and Timothy (17).
After graduation from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in 1988, Tim attended the University of Notre Dame where he graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration. He returned home to join the family farm where they grow peanuts, cotton and wheat throughout Baldwin County. He has served as president of the Young Farmers Committee for the Baldwin County Farmers Federation and on the State Young Farmers Committee. He is currently and has served on various industry boards, including the Cotton Board and Southern Cotton Growers. He is a founding member of the Knights of Columbus chapter at St. Patrick Parish and has held several offices within that organization.
Roberta graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in Accounting and a Master’s in International Business. She left Loyal American in 1997 upon the birth of their first child. In 2002, she obtained her P&C Insurance license and began selling crop insurance, which she did for many years.
Roberta has served as president of PTO for St. Patrick Catholic School and St. Michael Catholic High School and is currently the chair of Operation Round-Up for Baldwin EMC.
Together, Tim and Roberta have served as a support couple for Catholic Engaged Encounter, Co-Chairs for the Capital Campaign to fund St. Michael Catholic High School, lectors at St. Patrick Catholic Parish and various other parish and community activities. In 2018, together with several Baldwin County Catholic families, they initiated Coastal Clays, an annual clay shoot held at Mullek Farms to raise money for the four Catholic schools in Baldwin County.
They enjoy travel, Mardi Gras, college football, spending time on the water and visiting with their family and friends.
