MOBILE — The 75th annual Toy Bowl Classic campaign raised about $64,000 for CYO activities.
Leading the way in the fundraising activities for the support of CYO activities were Toy Bowl Queen Anya Gabrielle Hilpert and King George Thomas Nappi of St. Ignatius Catholic School. Other court members included First Lady to the Queen Mary Catherine Bryant of St. Dominic Catholic School; Second Lady to the Queen Ansley Marie Wellington of Corpus Christi Catholic School; Third Lady to the Queen Emma Kathleen Burkett of Corpus Christi and Fourth Lady to the Queen Anna Kidder of St. Ignatius. A total of 87 couples comprised the court.
Toy Bowl Week began Tuesday with a Mass and banquet for Court members at St. Mary Parish and McGill-Toolen Catholic High School. McGill-Toolen President and St. Ignatius Parish Pastor Fr. Bry Shields served as the celebrant.
This year's emcee for the Toy Bowl banquet was Sarah Wall of FOX10 News, while Pat Greenwood, University of South Alabama director of multimedia/corporate sales executive, was the guest speaker.
Toy Bowl championship football games took place on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Oscar H. Lipscomb Athletic Complex. This year’s Toy Bowl champions were: Division 2-St. Ignatius Black; Division 3 - St. Ignatius; Division 4 - St. Mary; Division 6 - St. Ignatius.
The Toy Bowl capped a football season that included 178 games, with 40 teams, 325 players and 98 coaches from kindergarten through sixth grade.
Volleyball champions were also crowned recently. This year's champions were: Division 3 - St. Ignatius Green; Division 4 - St. Ignatius; Division 5 - St. Ignatius; and Division 6 - St. Dominic.
The season included 100 matches, with 25 teams, 213 players and 61 coaches from grades three through six. About 75 participants also enjoyed an inaugural kindergarten-through-second grade instructional league.
The cheerleading season also included about 145 cheerleaders with 45 coaches on 14 squads.
