My name is Tex Phelps and I am the new Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. In my position one of my favorite parts of the job is visiting different parish communities and the beautiful churches across the diocese. In my previous positions in Beaumont, Savannah, Maryland and Washington DC, I have been very blessed to visit many parishes and be a part of parish celebrations of the Liturgy and other special occasions. It is always an honor and a privilege to worship alongside different communities with the same faith. It brings us together as ONE.

Beginning in grade school, we all were taught the 10 Commandments. These are God’s laws, given to Moses to be obeyed by God’s people. The commandments direct us not to lie, not to steal, not to commit adultery, not to kill, etc. We know God was serious about all the ones I just mentioned, but somehow we have the idea that God is not as serious about the commandment to keep holy the Sabbath. However, the Bible makes it clear that God is as serious about the commandment to keep holy the Sabbath as He is about the commandment not to kill. God commands that we keep the seventh day as the day that we gather and worship Him.
MOBILE — COVID-19 has certainly impacted the Stella Maris ministries throughout the world, but it hasn't stopped the Archdiocese of Mobile's ministry from ministering to seafarers.
Thankfully, we can finally travel and visit relatives! It feels almost like the good ole pre-COVID days. We can venture out of our bubble and take a vacation or travel to visit family and friends. Traveling to new places is a fun adventure and presents a great opportunity for us as Christian disciples striving to be good stewards.

She’s now Sister Mary Rose of the Pure Heart, O.P., a cloistered Dominican nun at the Dominican Monastery of St. Jude in Marbury. I look at the news and I hear about all of the division and anger in our country. I know that is real for many people, but I sure don’t see it here. Even so, I have been pondering how I can be an agent for change. What can I do to foster harmony and community? This has been on my mind and heart for some time now.
A wise priest once told me that stewardship is much more than the “Sermon on the Amount.” Sure, tithing is certainly a part of stewardship, but only one piece. God calls us to use all our gifts and talents to glorify Him, serve others and fulfill His calling in our life. That is why He so generously gave us the gifts of time, talents and treasure. So how can we get started?
A documentary highlighting the remarkable life of Bishop Michael Portier, the first bishop of Mobile, will be available to everyone beginning Monday, April 26.
MOBILE — With the Archdiocese of Mobile celebrating “The Year of the Eucharist and the Parish,” this year’s “One Faith One Family” conference will be parish-centered.
Last time I talked about my desire to be holy and laid out some ideas for how to work toward that. I focused on the human dimension of trying to grow. This time I want to supplement what I did last time by talking about prayer and how essential prayer is to us growing in holiness, because without prayer we are just engaging in self-help techniques.
